The Teacher
5 schools – 3 countries – 2 continents
Some people find their calling early, some late, and some never. I am not sure if teaching is „my calling“ but it is certainly the job I enjoy most. It is much more than just work – it is part of who I am.
Looking back I realized I have always been teaching. Whether in HEMA or the jungle of Venezuela. I taught in many different settings and situations, professionally and as an amateur. There were some offers I refused and some that I couldn’t take due to several reasons.
I funded, paid and ran a school in Venezuela for underprivileged children – and have probably learned more from it than the students. Some of the lessons still stick.
As of 2025 I also teach at the University College of Teacher Education Vorarlberg (PH Vorarlberg). This is a unique possibility to pass on my experience to the next generation of teachers.
Teaching is an art as well as a craft. It is also a science. I began to teach professionally in 2006 and since then I have been interested in the findings of the science of learning, teaching and memory. This led me to participate in many events, symposiums and seminars. I still try to base my teaching on the relevant findings in science.
I did research on readability in a school environment.
The results are shaping my work and the work of others to this day.
I also wrote a textbook for the vocational training of office clerks.
In the last 20 years, I had the privilege of being part of many teaching experiments where I could gather a lot of experience with all sorts of teaching styles.
The use of AI as well as Learning Management Systems (LMS) are part of my everyday teaching. The integration of personalised AI teaching is my passion, the development of AI-based teaching tools is my hobby.
So far I have taught in several schools in Austria, Switzerland and Venezuela.
